Our Story

Click-Click Travel was born out of the combined passion for both photography and travel of UK-based photographers Andreea and Matt. Our goal is simply to share this passion and our knowledge with any travel-loving, like-minded photographers around the world.

Andreea

I was born and raised in Romania at a time when borders were closed and freedom of expression was reprimanded. Luckily for me, when all that changed in my teens, the world became my oyster! I made England my home in my 20s and travelled as much as I could ever since.

My passion for photography has been a constant throughout my life and is undoubtedly in my genes! I remember fondly my dad’s homemade darkroom where I experienced the magic of seeing an image appear on paper for the first time. I still use my granddad’s Voigtlander for fun every once in a while!

I’ve always been a bit of a rebel when it comes to making life choices: from deciding to pursue a degree in philosophy when everyone else was studying to become a lawyer or an accountant, to moving countries and starting from scratch, and finally a few years ago giving up a financially rewarding career to pursue my dream of running my own photography business!

Since then, Matt and I undertook many photography jobs and ran many photography trips all over the world. When Covid-19 hit in 2020 we both decided we weren’t going to stay idle during various lockdowns being restricted from travelling and we used our time completing a Master’s Degree in Photography with Falmouth University, as ‘mature’ students, which we completed successfully in the summer of 2022. This gave us both even more tools to support our clients along their photographic journey.

Photographing people is my passion, and street portraiture has become one of my favourite genres when traveling – although it constantly pushes my boundaries to ask someone for a photo, me being a classic introvert! I also love dramatic landscapes (but hate the cold), striking architecture features, and I find nothing more soothing than a perfect minimalist image!

My many years in corporate project management didn’t just pay for holidays and the start of my photography business – they also made me a fierce organiser! Coupled with my caring nature and an obsessive attention to detail, organising tailored photography tours came easy! So, I’m the ‘boss’ (aka mother-hen) on tour, as well as a photography coach.

Matt

I started back in the film days with photography. My father managed to find a cheap second hand Canon SLR , which was great because I could steal his lenses and other accessories. Unfortunately, it was a passion that I couldn’t afford to feed at the time, since film and developing was rather expensive on a paperboy’s salary, and I am not sure my father truly understood my artistic pictures of our pet dog and my feet. This meant that I had to suspend my passion for photography until digital cameras were invented.

Many years ago, when Andreea and I were living in Paris, I borrowed her DSLR and decided to rekindle my interest in photography. Every afternoon I would take myself out shooting and learn everything I could. I would shoot street pictures, architecture, portraits, landscapes and anything else I could find to put in front of my lens. Quickly my skills and understanding developed, but there is always something more to learn.

My previous work as an engineer allowed me to experience living and working in other countries. For a time I lived in Germany and then after that China. My time in China was a great experience for me. I loved being there with the people and the culture. Everyday there was something new to experience and learn. Yes, I did get to grips a little with the language. Every spare weekend I would jump on a train or a plane, if I could, and go and explore somewhere. Living out there really fuelled my desire to see more of our wonderful world. Once we started our photography business, I could combine my passion for travel and photography and introduce people to the wonderful world of Asian culture. I love to teach and help people, especially with photography. I love to see them progress and the joy they experience through this.

Our Values

We have a few simple values that are built into everything that we do:

Travel responsibly and support the local communities:

We design each tour with a view to not only maximising the photographic opportunities for our group, but to ensuring that we minimise, as much as we can, any negative impact of our travels such as carbon footprint or over tourism.

Investing directly into local communities and especially family-run businesses is a top priority when organising things on the ground: from staying in independent hotels and homestays to using independent travel partners and guides, eating in family-run restaurants is the norm on our tours.

We always favour slow, overland (or water!) travel when designing our in-country itineraries to reduce our carbon footprint as much as we can, but also give everyone the opportunity to really immerse themselves into the local life.

Nurture everyone’s love for photography no matter the skill or ambitions:

Have you ever been put off by judgmental feedback in your local camera club, on a social media platform or whilst attending a photography workshop? You are not alone. Too many amateur photographers out there nearly give it up because of insensitive comments or feedback that in no way constructive. This is simply not us – never has been, never will be.

Our photography coaching and tuition is always tailored and our feedback is never unsolicited and always constructive and encouraging, as well as taking into account everyone’s individual preferences, aspirations and learning style. We are firm believers that nobody ever stops learning including of course ourselves, and we just treat everyone like a peer: a fellow lover of photography!

Value for money for everyone including solo travellers:

From the very beginning we have decided to never charge a single supplement and therefore the price you see is what you pay: there are no ‘from’ prices and no hidden costs! Moreover, as a returning customer or a direct referral of one, you might even get some money off!

We strive to keep our prices reasonable (well, we’re not the National Geographic but we’re not a package deal either) at the same time reflecting the value of what we offer: much more than a holiday, much more than a photography workshop! The price of our tours reflects the fact that there is unlimited photography coaching and tuition included, small groups guaranteed, as well as a continually updated authentic local experience created with the locals!

A personal, individual experience focused on YOU:

Almost everyone’s had a bad experience once travelling in a large group because - well, let’s be honest, nobody likes to be just a number on a spreadsheet! We hear from many travellers with a passion for photography and their frustrations with not being able to get the images that they want: being at the location at the wrong time, being rushed from one place to the next, not having enough time to set up a tripod, not being able to share ideas or thoughts with like-minded photography enthusiasts, being frowned upon for wanting to stop ever too often.

Our tours are always run in small groups, between 6-10 participants – which means that with 1-2 professional photographers and local guides where required, we look after you on a very individual basis, both from a photography coaching perspective but also as far as benefiting from the support of a local guide goes. This also gives us the opportunity to split the group if needed, adapt the activities to weather conditions or other opportunities or constraints, and make sure we’re not an intrusive presence when it comes to walking through local villages or out doing street photography!

It is our ethos that your local experience as well as the photography guidance throughout is tailored to your needs as much as possible: from 1-2-1s on your photography topics of choice to accompanied shopping trips to local markets or organising a specific photo shoot on location, our goal is to make this a trip to remember for you.
